Bone Gap Illinois

Today Jon and Chris traveled back to Jon's father's birthplace, Bone Gap, Illinois.

This sign is probably the newest thing in town.

We figure this is the old railroad depot, which has been spiffed up. There was an old train out front on the grass.

Here is Jon, hoping for cell phone coverage. No luck, but still able to text.

And here are the lovely fire department and post office buildings. You notice the main street running in front? Yep, if you blink you will miss it. 

Here is Jon's 2nd great uncle, Winfield Scott Fowler (son of Arthur Fowler Jr, younger brother of Ualphus Fowler) and his wife, Lydia Leet Fowler. 

There was no map, so we randomly parked the car and then we wandered up and down the rows, and found the gravestone within 10 feet of the car, after lots of searching. Jon was the lucky one to find the gravestone.

For a reference point, this will help people find the grave again - note the statue in the back. It was a statue recognizing war hero's from one of the World Wars. Lots of names on the statue, but no Fowler's, of course.

Another bustling road in Bone Gap. Jon is talking seriously about retiring here soon. I bet houses aren't too expensive. I can just hear my girls screaming already!

This house might be a bit out of our price range.

But just down the street.....

I found a great fixer-upper. Planning on making an offer soon.

Close to a great church..

And lots and lots of corn fields.

My brother Jeff asked me to pick him up a rock from Bone Gap. Found one at the base of this sign. I think it's a rock. Hope he likes asphalt.

All roads lead to Bone Gap. Can't get out! Send help! Lost Cell signal. GPS doesn't work!
